The project “Knowing the European culture is the key to future”
The project “Knowing the European culture is the key to future” is realized in John Paul II Primary School in Piatkowa. The primary assumption of the project is extending the knowledge of European culture by learning the culture of Malta and Scotland and implementation innovative solution, functioning in different European schools, to the organisation of Primary School in Piątkowa. All the school’s teachers and students take part in the project. The project is supported by the institutions which cooperate with the school. The date of commencement of the project is June 2017 and the finish date is September 2018.
The main strategic aims of the project:
- The improvement of teachers’ qualifications and their knowledge of English.
- Boosting the interest of different nations, tolerance and respect towards language and culture diversity.
- Implementation integrated language content education in more subjects, increasing the knowledge of new tools used in education and establishing relations with schools from different European countries.
- Enhancement of students’ motivation towards permanent formal and informal learning.
The teachers who take part in the project will attend language and methodology courses in Malta and Scotland in July and October 2017. The teachers attending the courses teach English, Polish, Science, integrated education of young learners and early childhood education. All the teachers have full qualification to teach their subjects and they systematically improve they qualifications. The fact that the teachers involved in the project represent different subject specialization ensures the wide influence of the project on various aspects of school functioning. The teachers will attend general English courses and the English teacher will attend Refresher Course for Teacher of English.
The teachers will be involved in implementation of content and language integrated learning so the vital is their English language competence. During the courses the teachers will collect information about culture, customs, history, style of live in different European countries. Apart from attending language courses there are planned activities such as setting up Europe Friends Club, organizing competitions for students, photo exhibitions, open lessons for other teachers and implementation of the programme “Let’s learn more about European culture”. Every year the teachers and students will organize Europe’s Day.
While the realization of the project, the teachers will broaden their knowledge of methodology by attending workshops, conferences, trainings, meetings and reading professional literature on methodology. The teachers will improve their language competence and pedagogical skills. As a result, their lessons will be more interesting and engrossing for their students so the students will achieve better results and the level of their motivation will increase. Another vital consequence of the project realization is the increase of the level of tolerance, respect to different cultures and language diversity among the school community. The equally important effect of all planned activities is creation of European identity and cross cultural awareness among the students and teachers of Primary School in Piątkowa.
The long-lasting effect of the implementation of the project will be development of students and teachers’ motivation to lifelong learning. The students will appreciate the importance of language skills in their future professional career after leaving the school. The students will embody the value of tolerance, open-mindedness, respect for people’s diversity and they will always feel members of European community. Due to participation in the project, implementation new methods and technique including CLIL the prestige of school in local community and across the country will increase.
